How to use this site

Reading

Each part of the Big City Plan Work in Progress document has been put onto this site in sections and an unofficial ‘plain English‘ translation added alongside.

You can read either column as they should be the same in meaning. We’ve tried to explain each term used and link out onto the web to more information where possible. If you think there are places where we can improve the translation or have additional helpful information please add a comment on that section.

Comments

The official consultation site will only show a sample of comments. We will show all comments here (except those which are obviously illegal or offensive) as we think that it will be very useful to see what others are saying and to have a discussion. We feel that discussion could lead to some brilliant ideas for the city. We will pass all the comments made here on to the council — but don’t let that stop you responding to the council direct by any of the methods listed on the Big City Plan website.

To comment on this site click on the ” x Comments’ link next to the text. You can also reply to other people’s comments, or rate comments up or down (promote the good solutions!).

The closing date for comments is Friday 6th February 2009.

Finding

There are many ways to find the topics in the Big City Plan that you’re interested in:

  • You can read all or any sections by using the table of contents on the left of the website.
  • You can use the search box (top right) to find any area you are interested in.
  • You can navigate by ‘Tag’ (keywords in the text), all the tags used are listed at the bottom of the website, the larger text means that more sections have been tagged with that word.

RSS

In order to keep track of the discussions you may find subscribing to the RSS feed for the comments useful. RSS is a little like email, in the sense that the posts will be delivered to you – but it’s much easier to quickly scan over a lot of content.

To read RSS feeds, you need to use a feed reader — Outlook has one, or there are lots of options (and a good explanation of RSS) on the BBC website.

Links to subscribe are in the sidebar at the bottom. Entries RSS will let you receive the latest news from this site, Comments RSS the latest comments made by people.
