Another possible approach would be to create the “Birmingham Boulevard” – the transformation of the A38 corridor into an attractive route not only for vehicles but for people to walk along, fronted by shops and building entrances and lined with trees to create a much more habitable environment.

Plain English Translation

Another idea would be to create the “Birmingham Boulevard”, that is we could make the area along the A38 (Bristol Road) into a nice route, not only for vehicles, but for people to walk along, with shops and entrances to buildings, and lined with trees to make a much nicer place to be.

  1. I would like to see better provision for cyclists, not only here, but throughout the city. If possible, cycle paths that are completely separate from the road, would certainly encourage me and I’m sure many others to cycle more.

  2. My first reaction was along the lines of “could be nice if the A38 wasn’t there” which I think is essentially what Julia’s saying: I don’t particularly want to walk and shop right next to 6 lanes of traffic.

Similar thoughts apply to Digbeth High Street/Deritend area

That said, I was driving through these areas earlier this week and felt they were neglected, marginalised parts of town so I’d like to see pedestrians return here.

  3. Wider footpaths, cafes, and individual shops and/or market stalls would be good to generate the use described. K-Damm in Berlin works well so why cant we do that here?
